I thought the book started out well - establishing the mystery, introducing us to a funny likeable main character, Jane. The pace bogged down, however, with little side-stories that failed to move the story forward. By the end, Jane is pretty irritating. This story might have been more enjoyable if it were 100 pages shorter.
Despite the comments below that say the novel is mediocre at best, I really enjoyed it. I hadn't encountered a clever mouthed, street savvy character like her before and enjoyed not only the journey she takes readers on with her, but also the witty writing style of the author. I would definitely read this author again!
A quick read, but as someone said Janie stumbled around and it is surprising she learned anything at all. Sort of felt betrayed for reading to the end and then have it end the way it did. I would read this author again, but she may have to prove herself yet.
After reading the reviews after I finished. I will say you really need to have the tolerance for a snarky and obnoxious protagonist or at least find sarcastic wit funny. Otherwise you probably wont be able to finish it.
I guess the only thing I liked was Jane's little comments her and there. The story was intriguing enough to keep me reading.
I was lead to believe this was another exciting twisty story alas, this was not the case.
socialite imprisoned for murdering mother. whoops. wrong murderer. daugther finds out mother had secret life in SD.
I really enjoyed this. Great character voice, nice use of ephemera (fake news and gossip website reports, text messages), interesting and fast-paced storyline.
I've also heard this is excellent on audiobook.
had a really hard time getting through this. when I got to the end, I knew who did it--but not why & by then I didn't care!
Didn't get past chapter 3 due to filthy language. This was beyond the run of the mill cussing It's a shame since the story summary sounded good.
I don't think I have ever disliked a book this much. It was a complete waste of my time. I kept willing it to get better. Hoping it would get better. Expecting it to get better because the reviews were great. I am completely baffled as to why. The plot was as interesting as watching corn grow and moved at the same pace. Not what you're looking for in a mystery/thriller. The character was dull & bitchy, not "part sleuth- part sass" like described. The answers were being handed to her while she was stumbling around like an idiot. Why I bothered to finish this book is a mystery. How this book even got published along with such rave reviews is the biggest mystery of all! .
