Seventeen-year-old Harley leaves a summer party when she discovers her boyfriend, Mike, and her younger sister, Audrey, hooking up. When Audrey ends up in a coma after a drunk driving accident, Harley is ridden with guilt for abandoning her, especially when she finds out that the driver was Mike. Harley’s resent for her sister’s betrayal fades when, upon awakening, Audrey doesn’t remember what happened. AS Audrey rehabilitates, Harley rekindles a childhood friendship that was broken by substance abuse. With the romance and realness of Rainbow Rowell, The Art of Losing explores what happens when the bond between sisters is tested.

I received an Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for an honest review!

I do not even know where to begin with this book. This book reminded me so much of myself, not with the drug and alcohol abuse, but with the heavy issues that teens deal with that seem to be pushed under the rug by adults at times. Teens deal with some heavy topics these days.

This book did an amazing job of talking about the topic of teen drug and alcohol abuse that is becoming a major issue in today’s society. When I first went into this book I thought it was going to be about Harley being hung up on all the awful things her ex did to her and how much she hates him. This book is so much more than that.

The characters in this book have their flaws, but they also grow so much along the way. This story was heartbreaking, beautiful and so real and prevalent for today’s society. EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK! 5/5 stars from me!
