Add a Quote"But loving myself, engaging in this daily practice of loving myself, will better prepare me to identify love in other people, and will also help me spot those people I would be better off avoiding altogether. A life lived with love remains an imperfect one, but such a life would be uncompromising in love, authentic, real, hopeful, and progressive toward the future...
It's not selfish to think of love in these terms - love is not selfish; love is not to be confused with excessiveness and ego, or with a need to take and take from people, from life, without ever giving back, without wanting to repay love with love in return. Add a CommentI love to read memoirs and autobiographies, but this book was all over the place. I know the type of vibe Common has as a artist, but this book was quite boring until towards the end when he starts to let us in about some personal matters. I’d say save your time and skip this one and maybe just get the summary because its just very open on his views of what love is, which is just vastly open for interpretation.
This was my first time reading Common and the title definitely drew me in. He's a multitalented Man and I was intrigued by what his take on Love would be. Overall, he does an ample job of sharing his personal truths, because ultimately, Love is far too complex & individual a topic for any definitive answers. I was elated by his willingness to be vulnerable and dig below the superficial. It's a conversational writing style, which I enjoyed since I had access to the audiobook as well. A male perspective on Love which was thought-provoking and would be particularly significant for Men of all ages.
