From Library Staff

The Sweethearts of Rhythm is the story of a real all girl band that traveled around the country in the 1930s and 1940s. The band was unusual because it was all girls and because it was integrated. Illustrated by Jerry Pinkney.

Although this is a juvenile book, it contains very interesting history of a female swing band from an unusual pov. The are work is outstanding. Many adults would enjoy this work.

Fantastically written book with beautiful illustrations. The book consists of poems about the band told from the point of view of their instruments. It was a delightful read. I wish that a historical note had been included at the beginning of the book instead of the end but enjoyable nonetheless.
