It's safe to say that this is Shawn Mendes' best album. The riffs are quite good on " Japan" and "youth " is a good anthem song for us young adults. This is album that you don't want to skip,
5 out of 5.

Shawn Mendes is the second studio album, written and produced by Shawn Mendes. I feel like throughout Mendes’ first album, he played it safe writing and producing mostly pop music. However, throughout his second album, I feel like Mendes’ strays away from the conventional “boy next door” pop music. He adds a bit more of an edge, and writes about more intimate experiences he’s had. I feel like this resonates with a lot wider range of people. Throughout this album, Shawn Mendes also uses a broader approach to the sound on many of the tracks. While this is still mostly a pop album, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I would definitely recommend this. I would give this album 4.5/5.

Following the release of his album Illuminate in 2016, Shawn Mendes released his long awaited self titled album on May 25, 2018. After hits such as There's Nothing Holding Me Back, Stiches, and Treat You Better, there was a lot of pressure on the nineteen year old. This album didn't disappoint. Songs such as Lost in Japan, Nervous, and Particular Taste are the kinds of songs that you could spend hours playing on repeat. At the moment, my personal favourite is Like To Be You featuring Julia Michaels. Together their voices are so raw and full of emotion. Anyone who's listened to his music can see that he's matured as an artist. I truly think that after this album, his future as an artist is bright and I look forward to hearing more of his music. 5 Stars
