All families have their little traditions that stick around through the ages. In mine, my mother keeps a sewing box much like Janet Hull's tin full of buttons. While the little bits of art that dot the book aren't that pretty, the book itself offers a wonderful wholesome story about family tradition. What's more, though, that tradition is easily adapted into a life lesson on valuing all people. The book doesn't linger on this thought long but it certainly makes it a pleasure to read.
