This book teaches you how to create a basic skirt "sloper" (pattern designed to fit you specifically) and then shows you how to make other designs from that. The variations are put in four categories: wrap, straight, flared, and high-waisted. The book includes a lot of good introductory instructions, including several different hand stitches and types of hems, and when to use which.
