I really enjoyed this book

The heroine in this story is an American who went to England to marry a title as many American girls did at the time. She fell in love with an Earl. Obviously this man showed her only one side of his personality . As soon as he had her huge dowry in his possession, he left her in the country with his disapproving mother and went back to his mistress. After three years of this horrible marriage and many requests for divorce, she caused a scandal. She gained her freedom but lost her place in society.

The telling of the story is very subtle but readers of historical novels know that women became the property of their husbands upon marriage. I try to put myself in that situation and feel I would have to do as the heroine did. She paid a high price.
