A fun fast-paced adventure to recover the pieces of the golden capstone of the Great Pyramid and save the world from celestial destruction. Fun characters, intriguing traps engaging villains. The first in the "Jack West Jr." series, it's still enough of a stand-alone. It feels very Indiana Jones with Da Vinci Code like conspiracies mixed in.

I became a fan of Matthew Reilly for his Scarecrow series and other standalones, which had delirious action set pieces I'd never seen outside of a movie. "7 Deadly Wonders" launches a new series that pits a multinational commando team against a series of extremely implausible booby traps that of course work perfectly after sitting dormant for millennia. If that trope bugs you too, I recommend "Napoleon's Pyramids" by William Dietrich. If your suspension of disbelief redlines at a higher level, you'll have a great time with "7 Deadly Wonders" and its sequels.

If you like the Indiana Jones
movies, you will love this book.
A lot of action. I couldn't
put it down. I am at the third book in the serie now, and they
are all very good.

Absolutely terrible.

Agreed that it reads like an action movie -- specifically an Indiana Jones-style action movie. Fast-paced and never a dull moment, but if character development is part of what interests you about a story you won't find much of that here. Enjoy it for what it is.

Blind Date With A Book comment: "A book I would NEVER check out turned out to be a great date! Can't tell a book by it's cover!"

Reads like an action movie (I see Russel Crowe as the lead). Comparable to Dan Brown or David Gibbins, but faster than both.

Very entertaining book, definitely much better than what I expected given what I have read by Reilly before. Lots of interesting historical tidbits and I must say, the idea of Australia as the "most powerful nation on Earth" is definitely original

This is an Awesome Book. Great characters, great story. They carry on to the next 2 books in this series.
Anxiously waiting on the 4th etc...
You'll add Matthew Reilly to your "favorite authors" list for sure.
