"When Maine game warden Mike Bowditch is tasked with shooting invasive feral hogs that are tearing up the forest in his district, he makes a horrific discovery -- a dead baby buried in a shallow grave. Even more disturbing: evidence suggests the infant was the child of a young woman who was presumed to have died four years earlier after she disappeared from a group rafting trip. As Bowditch assists the reopened investigation, he begins to suspect that some of his neighbors aren't who they seem to be. When violence strikes close to home, he realizes that his unknown enemies will stop at nothing to keep their terrible secrets. Mike Bowditch has bucked the odds his whole career, but this time the intrepid warden may have finally followed his hunches one step too far"-- Provided by publisher.

The other comments have summed the Mike Bowditch books up really well. It was another good read & I'm looking forward to the next story in this series....long may it last.

Ah, Maine, "America's Tailpipe". The Saco, river of choice for flotillas of inebriated, puking college louts. Smoggy, perspiration pumping, ninety-degree-plus days abuzz with deer flies (the piranhas of the air), and four foot water snakes making a home in one's canoe. Let's welcome the newest interlopers, wild boar, engines of destruction whether targeting flora or fauna alike. Then there's parasitic infestation of the human kind: rural slumlords. Doiron's caustic observations in Knife Creek must send the bureaucrats at the state tourist office into an apoplectic fit.

Mike Bowditch #8 - Another good installment in this outdoor mystery series. I always enjoy the Maine wilderness setting of these books along with Mike and his supporting cast. The missing person theme of this book hooked me at the beginning and kept the pages turning. Having just kayaked a long twisty river myself, I found the description of the Saco river interesting. Hard to believe Mike's been around for 8 books already. Looking forward to the next book to see how he handles his new responsibilities.

This is the eighth book in the in the author's Mike Bowditch series, and it may be his best. I've liked them all.

I love this series by this author. It starts with warden finding the remains of a baby in the woods. He had the task of thinning out the feral pigs. The author is so good at his mysteries. If you like Craig johnson or C.J.Box this is an author you will love. Can't wait for the next one.
