"In a haze of vape smoke on a rare windy night in LA in the fall of 2016, Chelsea Handler daydreams about what life will be like with a woman in the White House. And then, Donald Trump happens. In a torpor of despair, she decides that she's had enough of the privileged bubble she's lived in -- a bubble within a bubble -- and that it's time to make some changes, both in her personal life and in the world at large. At home, she embarks on a 'Year of Self-Sufficiency' -- learning how to work the remote, how to pick up dog shit, where to find the toaster. She meets her match in an earnest, brainy psychiatrist and enters into therapy, prepared to do the heavy lifting required to look within and make sense of a childhood marked by love and loss and to figure out why people are afraid of her. She becomes politically active -- finding her voice as an advocate for change, having difficult conversations, and energizing her base. In the process, she develops a healthy fixation on Special Counsel Robert Mueller and, through unflinching self-reflection and psychological excavation, she unearths some glittering truths that light up the road ahead."-- Provided by publisher.

Super fan of every book she ever wrote, up until “Uganda Be Kidding Me.” I thought maybe it was me. No. It’s getting old. She’s getting older, I’m getting older, the crazy stuff isn’t so interesting, or even so crazy. She’s settling into her ways, becoming mature, and I guess it’s supposed to be shocking she’s got a thing for Robert Mueller. That’s not as compelling as it sounds, heh heh. She’s got a lovable public persona, she’s a gifted comic, she’s honest and curious which makes her an incredible interviewer and documentary subject. She does so much good, she’s so generous, so intent on making the world a better place, and has one of the best podcasts that isn’t APM Marketplace.

But skip this and enjoy her podcast. You get all the good stuff without nodding off.

The audiobook, read by the author, is the same old crass and swear-y humor people either love or hate and expect from Chelsea Handler. In this book, she digs deep into self and strives to share her growth with readers. I enjoyed listening to her delivery and laughed out loud to a good many one-liners.

As a huge fan of Chelsea Handler it's a treat to watch her grow. She's not just smart, but confident, assured, funny as hell, daring, and... well, the list goes on and on. I don't just admire her and adore her, I might hope to be her. This book takes you on a different path than her previous ones but it's a path of exploration and understanding herself. It's a compelling journey and the reader well understands what formed her just as she does, in laying it out in this book. I consumed this book at a rapid pace and can't wait to see what Chelsea Handler does next.

Never heard of her, but this is #1 on the NYT bestseller list.
