Based on the Vertigo comic book series from DC Entertainment, the mobster husbands of three 1978 Hell's Kitchen housewives are sent to prison by the FBI. Left with little but an ax to grind, the ladies take the Irish mafia's matters into their own hands, proving surprisingly adept at everything from running the rackets to taking out the competition, literally.

A women-centric film based on the comic book miniseries of the same name. It is a fresh idea on the rise to power of a trio of wives in the Irish mob in the late 1970s. A bit slow at the start but gets more exciting and crazy once the Irish hit-man Gabriel (Domhnall Gleeson) emerges.

Enjoyed this movie because all three actresses are really good. Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish are great comic actors, but now I see that they're also really good at drama. I was also impressed by the female director. Watch the extra section after the movie to see what I mean.
Not your typical "chick flick"... a movie definitely worth watching.

I read the limited series published by DC/Vertigo years ago and though I liked it, would never have thought of it as movie material. Here comes the movie and though pushing credibility, A LOT, it still provided an entertaining interlude to my weekend. I liked the comic better but still...

I wasn't expecting much from actresses the likes of McCarthy and being much of a Hollywood mainstream type f flicks but I tried my patience. To my surprise, it wasn;t that bad and actually had some nice twists. Somehow my trust for Hollywood was a bit restored...just a bit except of course from those paltry Oscar types which sadly has gradually eroded through the years.

Good acting, but in the service of a random and ridiculous plot. There is an agreement, then some people get killed, then there is an agreement, then some people get killed, then there is an agreement, then some people get killed, then there is an agreement, then some people get killed, then ...

Three out of five stars. A bit contrived, but worthy of a look.

The 3 female actors were good. Women taking over Hell's Kitchen is unlikely. I like it.

It was an authentic look at New York during that decade. I was expecting something entirely different. I was a bit disappointed in the ending. Overall, it was gritty and a welcome breath of fresh air. Great to see women as the gangstas instead of just eye candy.

I am woman. Hear me roar. But this movie is no roaring success cause woman I only struts, manipulates and, by the conclusion, evolves are a first class cliche. Dialogue is eye-rolling cheesy and by the end of the movie the characters were simply annoying.
