It didn't take me long at all to get engrossed into this book. I loved Karou's voice and attitude, and there were several times that the plot and her growing relationship with Akiva had me literally on the edge of my seat. (I caught myself actually physically bouncing with tension). The ending literally made me gasp. I was hoping for a lot with this book, and it definitely delivered! :)

i would say this is Romeo & Juliet with a great spin of all the good guys live. you aren't left with your favorite characters always dying..well not permanetly anyway. action, romance great friendships. twists & turns. unexpected friendships. this author was incredible creative with this world she developed & i loved most of it. this was a very unique series in my opinion. so glad the librarian suggested it to me.

I liked this more than a lot of other urban fantasy stories I've read lately. The narrative voice is delightful, the characters are great, and the supernatural aspects are unusual in some very good ways. Bonus for ending on an obvious sequel hook but leaving me with no idea how it will go forward, so reading the sequels will be a surprise.

Pros: 1-Interesting concept of angels vs chimera in a thousands-year war. 2-Magic that is somewhat mysterious and has levels of power that make you start thinking about what kinds of "small" wishes you'd make if you had the choice. 3-Chimera characters that stretch the imagination (especially when listening to the book). 4- Good narrator for an audiobook.

Cons: Really just 1-Love story told twice, basically, causing me to lose interest.

I had absolutely no idea what to expect from this book. It is well narrated, but the source material lets it down. Simply searching for "good reads" I saw this one recommended by many and decided to jump right in. Faith that those recommendations weren't unfounded kept me going through a slow beginning, but despite showing promise by the end I was only left hoping that something, anything, would save the story and make the the time I spent with it worthwhile.

The main character at first appears to be complex, but she's little more than a Mary Sue for the wanna be outsider. Her only real problems are that she has too much interesting stuff going on in her life and the feeling that another even more fantastic part of her life is missing.

Things do fall apart. There is a nice build of tension as trouble looms. Soon she is cut off from that fantastical part of her life, hunted, and has to use the knowledge and skills from both parts of her life to face the trouble and get what's she's lost back. I could have seen this build into an exciting fantasy thriller, but that is when the book reached the peak of potential before falling off into a completely lackluster direction.

Suddenly the one hunting her is madly in love with her and she with him. The plot forgets about itself and the only explanation we get for this unrelatable relationship is that also explained with shallow love at first sight logic. After an eternity spent describing their unfounded love the book ends with a trite hiccup in their meant to be narrative and dangles the long forgotten tension as a teaser for a sequel.

The reader was fabulous! A combination of fantasy, mystery and romance. Just when I thought I had it all figured out and wondered why I needed to listen to one more CD, there was a twist in the plot. I'm usually not a fan of books about other worlds and characters with strange names, but I was hooked on this character and her predicament from the beginning. Being set in modern day Prague helped ground the book for me and the sense of place and use of language was lovely. There is an element of war and good vs evil, though who is good and who is evil is totally debatable- which adds interest and intrigue. And NOW I will need to continue...".Days of Blood and Starligh"t next!

Loved the book! Though the only thing I didn't like was that I kinda felt cheated at the end. You build up this character throughout the book and in the end, another takes over? I understand it's not a complete takeover and essentially it's the same person but afterwards while reading, I could only think of this person as the new one and felt as if that previous personality had been removed or squashed under the new one. It almost felt like a fake *eyes suspiciously* However! I still gave this book an (almost) 5 star rating because it is full of AWESOME!!!
