Add a CommentA political redemption attempt that goes horribly wrong. This documentary is so, so funny and a fascinating portrayal of media's obsession with scandal
Directed and produced by Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg in 2016, this 96-minute documentary depicts the campaign of Anthony Weiner who attempts a comeback by running for mayor of New York after disappearing from the public eye following his 2011 sex scandal.
If you don't want to become a loser in politics, this is a must-see.
Since this movie was commissioned by Anthony Weiner, it is hardly likely to cast an extremely negative aura over Weiner and/or his wife Huma Abedin.
In some ways this defines American politics - it's all about image and almost nothing to do with policies.
This could have been better (a lot better) if it had been done independently. Then it could show Abedin and Weiner as Clinton hacks. Both of them follow the Clinton Credo of "Triangulation" (ie) Say one thing in public and do the opposite in private. There is zero mention of Abedin's real job as a Hillary fixer (along with Wasserman-Schultz) in getting Hillary the presidential nomination over the feckless Bernie - all exposed in the Podesta e-mails.
What a great documentary soo full of shame and embarrassment. His compulsive sexting addiction was hard thing to comprehend. He had such great potential and the addiction made him throw it all away. Huma what a woman such a committed loyal wife. Who try to this fool. God I would love to have a woman like that by my side.
This film documents Weiner's doomed run for New York City mayor in 2013 following his 2011 resignation from Congress due to a sexting controversy. No one is appealing here. Not Weiner, his power player wife Huma, the big shot talking heads, Sydney Leathers, or even his constituents. Issues are not even mentioned in the race besides Weiner's trustworthiness. It shows how barren our politics have become. Everything is ego. Everything is surface. Nothing of substance matters.
This documentary is a funny look at the disgrace of Anthony Weiner. The man definitely has problems, and I wonder what the film makers were thinking as they were shooting this. They were most likely trying to frame this as a come-back story, but I bet they weren't expecting him to be disgraced a second time right before his run to be the mayor of New York.
Funny thing is, even after this disgrace, Anthony Weiner was disgraced yet again, for the 3rd time during the 2016 presidential election. Weiner sent nasty pictures of himself to another online floozy, but this time with his son in the picture! Talk about sick. This got child protective services on him and got his computer seized. That was when they found a bunch of other incriminating evidence on his laptop that might have contributed to Hilldog losing the election. Man, too bad that wasn't included in this documentary. I was sure that Killary would have him fixed for sure.
Also interesting in this documentary is the way it portrays his relationship with Huma. The two of them came off as awkward and uncomfortable. I'm really not sure what's the deal with them, and I kinda feel sorry for Huma, especially since he blamed her for the 3rd disgrace because she wouldn't have sex for over a year.
This movie is packed to the gills with schadenfreude.
Go ahead and watch it. It's very entertaining and you will see how political campaigning actually works in a big city. Weiner comes off as likeable and, of course, flawed, but he and his wife are so glamorous you forget about how tawdry it all is.
This documentary was originally intended to chronicle disgraced politician Anthony Weiner's comeback. Instead, it captured his downfall.
There's a lot of love in this film - from Huma, the campaign staff and supporters. Weiner is scrappy and a fighter. He could've been a contender.
Wow, this guy, Anthony Weiner, is awesome, and explosive. The middle class needs him, his articulation, his fight, oh man that fight. People make mistakes all of the time, whether they admit it or not, and I think what he offers as a politician -- and it's a difficult profession, but some people like Weiner excel in it, with certitude -- should overshadow his mistakes by large margins because it's a personal matter rather than a public one; but his critics will lead you to believe it is the other way around because they don't want competent leaders and serious challengers, like Anthony Weiner, to particularly the extreme conservatives -- resist his critics' assessment. Donald Trump blasts Anthony Weiner as a 'pervert' in this film, um, excuse me? I believe the one who boasted about grabbing any pussy he wanted was none other than Donald Trump, which sparked the worldwide Women's March protest in 2017, and he does this in front of his family and the entire world. Let's understand the whole situation here before making rash judgments, and let's also acknowledge the strength of Huma, his wife: They probably need to spend more time on strengthening their marriage and their family as a unit, if that is their desire, but that requires a mutual effort and commitment. Where everyone else is concerned, and if I were a New York resident, I would vote for Anthony Weiner for mayor, definitely. Much credit goes to maintaining unprecedented filming access, an honest depiction of a passionate politician.
