This book had an ending that was too predictable for me. Harriet Blue is not as likable as most Patterson heroes are. I was disappointed that I had already figured out how the main story line would end. Much of the element of suspense was then gone. I’ll still continue reading the other books in this series.

I enjoyed this introduction to the character Harriet Blue. By happenstance, I read Book #4 first (Hush Hush) and that only fueled me to start at the beginning to better understand what drives this character. I will continue with the remaining in the series as I am intrigued by Detective Blue.

This is a collaboration. It is not known whether Mr. Patterson, as the dominant author, had insisted on "actions" than character development? The characters in this novel did not have the same richness that are typical in Ms. Fox own novels.

This was my first Patterson book. While I enjoyed the idea of the plot I very quickly figured out who the antagonist was which kind of dulled the experience for me. The main character is not likeable and felt like an obvious characterization of what men think female detectives are although it is inaccurate. The sub-plot ended up unresolved and the motivation for the antagonist seems rushed and came out of nowhere. It also plays up false theories as to killers motivations in real life.

Awesome read. I could not put it down read it in 3 days. The type of story where you do not know what will happen next.

As my first James Patterson book, I enjoyed reading the first book in this trilogy. Felt Patterson captured the essence of living in a mining town in outback Australia. Could feel the lead character's anguish over her brother. Enough twists and turns, although possibly wrapped up too suddenly for the length of the book. Didn't guess who the antagonist was, but didn't get why the person was the antagonist either.

Looking forward to books 2 and 3.

I did like the suspense and the new characters in this mystery novel. I did not, however, enjoy the F word about 600 times in a 300+ page novel.

A very quick read, definitely a page turner, but I was quite unsatisfied with the ending. Patterson has a knack for suspense, that's for sure. I think I prefer the character of Harriet's partner, Whitt, over Harriet Blue (unusual since I love books with heroines), and of course I simply have to find out what happens to her brother Sam... I'm guessing questions that remain (more raised than answered in this debut of the series) will be addressed in subsequent books so I'll have to keep reading. Another thing Patterson is good at...

Interesting story. It takes place in Australia. An intriguing plot - two other story lines are also introduced. Looking forward to the next one.
