From Library Staff

How do you code a sandcastle? Pearl and her robot discover it maybe more difficult than you think. Coding in steps is the basis for making things move. This is a basic intro to coding through story. At the end of the book, there is information on coding and the language of code used in the book.

* Girls coding (loops, if then, small tasks, specific directions, sequences), human characters with a range of skin tones and hair types, robots, cute lobsters: this book checks all the boxes. * The information about coding doesn't interrupt the story too much & more information is included in the backmatter.
* The hyperbole in the text is explained through the illustrations (sandcastles wrecked by flying saucers and shark attacks). The shoutout to computing pioneer Ada Lovelace on the 2nd spread is fun.

A fun way to introduce coding to elementary kids.
