"Five years ago, Andie Bell, a popular high schooler, was allegedly murdered by Sal Singh, her boyfriend, who later killed himself too. But Pip, now a senior, thinks there is more to the story. With an excuse for her final, Pip decides to investigate the closed case. But as she starts examining closely, she finds many buried secrets in the town which might get her closer to the truth. But someone doesn’t want her to unravel this mystery and now she might be a target. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson is a mystery thriller for young adults. This book was just amazing. Every chapter new suspects emerged and throughout the book it was impossible to pin down who might have done it. The book had me hooked from the first page till the end. And when I thought the murder was found another twist was added! All the character also felt super authentic. The book had the right amount of everything and I tremendously loved it! Any mystery/thriller fan or someone who has read books like One of us is Lying would love this book!" - Eshita, Grade 10 "A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson, released in 2020, is impossible to put down. In the town of Fairview, everyone knows the story of Andie Bell being murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. Everyone knows the story, but the question is, does everyone believe it? Five years after this unforgettable story, Pip could not shake the feeling that something was missing, she found it difficult that Sal, someone she knew since she was a child and was always so kind to her, could have killed Andie. Unable to shake this feeling, she decides her senior project should be about reevaluating this closed case. Soon, she comes across a trail of dark secrets that could prove Sal’s innocence and reveal the truth. Although, someone in Fairview does not want Pip digging around, and her life, and her family's lives, become in danger. I love this book so much! This is honestly one of the best young adult murder mysteries I have read, I did not put this book down until I reached the ending. At certain parts, chills were sent down my spine and my jaw would drop. This book has countless unexpected twists and turns and is a must-read. I definitely recommend this to anyone that loves a good murder mystery that keeps you hooked until the end. I gave this book five stars, because of the genuine fear that it struck me with. I was so engrossed in this book that I felt like I was in it. A Good Girls Guide to Murder is one of my favorite murder mysteries to date." 5/5 stars -Jade, Grade 11 "Unaware of what she was getting herself into, high school senior Pippa Fitz-Amobi had chosen her capstone project: proving Sal’s innocence for his alleged murder of Andie Bell. Five years ago, he died by suicide when convicted of homicide, leaving his family shunned by their community. With lies and accomplices muddying the solution to Andie’s case, Pip interviews individuals close to it to begin piecing the puzzle together. When digging up Andie’s dark secrets with Sal’s brother, Ravi, they find hidden stories, motives, and suspects that might help solve this town’s cursed murder mystery. The best part of the book is easily the ending; the end to a mystery novel is so hard to write well, but Jackson’s is one of the best I’ve read. It made sense and had a rich connection to the nature of the characters, and the twists were easy to follow but simultaneously impossible to guess correctly. It was truly a perfect blend of the best elements of all the YA mystery novels out there, making it an incredibly immersing read. Though I didn’t love Pip as a character, the others completely made up for it, possessing amazing backstories and character development. Overall, I would recommend this book (and the sequels) to anyone who loves a well-developed and perfectly-balanced murder mystery." -Anne, Grade 9
