I can't believe there isn't a waiting list for this book- Robert Smalls is a remarkable hero of the Civil War- oh yeah and he escaped slavery by commandeering a Confederate ship and delivering it to the Union Navy along with his family and co-workers right under the noses of the Confederate Navy!
He was really an amazing man, why we don't read about him in history I don't understand. Why isn't there a monument to him?
I really just wanted to read about his story and there was quite a bit of detail about the war but it was details I had not heard. I highly recommend this book.
