Bears Bears Bears Bears

This is my fourth list featuring the humble grumbly family Ursidae. Please enjoy some of my favorite books featuring bears. Two links at the end of this list are great resources if you'd like to engage more with bears and with conservation efforts. Watch bears fatten up for the winter through live cameras in Katmai National Park in Alaska. There are peaceful moments, solitary bears sitting patiently in the rolling river for their lunch, seagulls fluttering around for scraps; a female bear with her two cubs sleeping in a pile, Mama Bear lifting her head every so often to check their surroundings. And there are more dramatic moments, like when a light furred with blond ears female bear nicknamed Grazer will regularly fight off larger male bears to defend her feeding spot and her cubs. Something exciting that is coming up from October 2nd-8th is Katmai's Tenth Annual Fat Bear Week. "Katmai’s brown bears are fattest in late summer and early fall. It is the end-product of a summer-long effort to satisfy their profound hunger and prepare for winter hibernation. During hibernation, bears do not eat or drink and lose one-third of their body weight. Their winter survival depends on accumulating ample fat reserves before entering the den. Fat bears are successful bears. They exemplify the richness of Katmai National Park and Bristol Bay, Alaska, a wild region that is home to more brown bears than people and the largest, healthiest runs of sockeye salmon left on the planet." Tune in to Fat Bear Week for some competitive fun and get inspired about preserving such a beautiful resource, for the bears and for our planet. #IndyPLKids #Bears #KatmaiNationalPark Original publish date: September 25th, 2024 Previous lists // https://tinyurl.com/icanbearlycontainmylove 11.20.2018 https://tinyurl.com/ivebearlyscratchedthesurface 6.3.2020 https://tinyurl.com/bearsbearsbearspartthe3rd 7.31.2023
