Afrofuturism

"Afrofuturism" was coined by Mark Dery in his 1993 essay, "Black to the Future." The term is defined as "speculative fiction that treats African American themes and addresses African American concerns in the context of the twentieth century technoculture". In a time where Star Wars, Star Trek, and other science-fiction media was all the rage, Afrofuturism is such an important genre showcasing that Black people's stories belong in all eras, not just past and present, but future too. This Black History Month, check out some amazing Teen books that fall into the Afrofuturism genre! #IndyPLTeens #TeenBooks #Teens #YA #YoungAdult
