All the Light We Cannot See

You'll enjoy these titles because: Anthony Doerr's novel All the Light We Cannot See won the Pulitzer Prize for its compelling and authentic, character-driven storytelling and has been adapted into a Netflix miniseries starring Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie. He takes readers through the Allied siege of Saint-Melo, a French coastal town under Nazi occupation. Marie Laure, a blind French girl, knows the cities streets by heart through a scale model meticulously crafted by her father. When she discovers a treasure hidden inside the model, she fights to survive from both the Nazi occupiers but also the Allied raids intended to liberate the city. Werner is an Austrian radio operator for the Nazi Army, who reluctantly joined the army only because of his love for tinkering with machines. These novels feature similar character-driven stories with authentic protagonists. They are also all historical fictions, focusing on the familiar World War II themes in All the Light We Cannot See as well as other time periods: the fall of Constantinople in 1453, the Russian countryside in the 1880s, and the New Mexican desert in the 1940s. If you liked All the Light We Cannot See, give these books a try! #IndyPLAdults
