The Pastor as MidwifeThe Pastor as Midwife

"The Western church is dominated by metaphors for understanding pastoral ministry that have largely done damage both to congregations and to the vocation of pastor. But what if we were to not just reimagine the metaphors which we use to envision pastoral ministry, but actually learn from other vocations? In The Pastor as Midwife, Shawna Songer Gaines brings her pastoral experience alongside her research on the vocation of midwifery to explore a vision of pastoral leadership that is shaped by the wisdom of those who walk alongside pregnant mothers. In a world where pastors are told to be visionaries and entrepreneurs, Gaines offers another path for leadership, marked by advocacy, listening, and letting go of control"-- Provided by publisher.
